    Welcome to École Wîhkwêntôwin School

    We are so pleased to let you know that in April 2024, our school received a new name: Wîhkwêntôwin School.

    Wîhkwêntôwin is a Cree word that can be translated into English as ‘circle of friends’. Wîhkwêntôwin is pronounced we-kwen-to-win.

    We are excited to share the same name as the community we call home! We offer French Immersion and English Kindergarten. Click here for Kindergarten Slideshow.

Principal's Message

Welcome / Tâtawâw / Bonjour to our École Wîhkwêntôwin School family!

In Cree, Wîhkwêntôwin means "Circle of Friends." As a new school year begins, we are delighted to open our circle even wider and extend a heartfelt welcome to all of our new and returning students and families.

At École Wîhkwêntôwin School, fostering a strong community and creating a sense of belonging for every student are central to who we are. Alongside this, engaging, high-quality learning remains our core priority. We strive to provide a safe space where students feel supported and inspired to reach their full potential. Together with our families and community partners, we work as a team to do what is best for every child. Values such as kindness, respect, inclusiveness, and responsibility guide our actions in every classroom, every day.

Our students have the power to make every school year GREAT. It all starts with choosing kindness and looking after one another. Our world is vast and full of exciting things to discover. We encourage our students to be passionate, ask questions, and explore the land that we live, learn and play on. Our students collaborate with their peers, take risks, and challenge themselves. This is their opportunity to be brave, achieve great things, and make a difference in the world!

As we launch the new school year, I am eager to connect with new families and reconnect with our returning ones. I invite you to call or email me anytime with questions, wonders, or feedback. As your child’s primary advocate, your collaboration is essential to our success. Together as a Circle of Friends, we learn lots and take care of each other. We choose kindness.
